ESPN.com's Chris Lowe is reporting Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin is involved in more shady recruiting. According to Lowe's report, Kiffin contacted heralded WR prospect, Alshon Jeffery, in the wee hours of the morning on national signing day and told him if he went to South Carolina, he would end up pumping gas the rest of his life. Jeffery was ranked 102nd in ESPN's top 150 recruits and had the choice of Tennessee, South Carolina, USC, and Florida on signing day. Despite Kiffin reportedly telling him he would pump gas the rest of his life, Jeffery choose South Carolina.
Kiffin has vehemently denied the report saying "I never said that to Alshon, nor would I say anything like that. That's just not something I would say."Although Kiffin has denied the report, Jeffery's high school coach Walter Wilson, has confirmed the story.
As I said earlier, this is not the first time Kiffin's recruiting tactics have been questioned. There were also three minor violations reported by the University after Kiffin accused Florida head coach Urban Meyer and Georgia head coach Mark Richt of cheating in their own recruiting.
When Kiffin was hired, I thought he would be the next great coach, as he had experience as the offensive coordinator at USC and head coach in the NFL. I still stand by that opinion, but he has gone way over the line and then some not only with this incident, but other negative recruiting.
