Breaking News: Confrence Expansion Taking Off

According to orangebloods.com, the Nebraska Board of Regents (which is basically an oligarchy that makes decisions for the University) have decided the Huskers will accept their invitation to join the Big 10.

Last year the 11 Big 10 teams received north of $20 million from the Big 10 Network, so obviously this was probably a huge factor in Nebraska decision to join. The BTN should see a jump in revenue because the conference's westward expansion opens a new market for potential customers who want to watch the Huskers.

The Big 10 will now be able to have a Conference Championship Game, which will bring even more money to the conference (and it gives us another game to watch!). The conference will likely still be looking to expand (to compete with the potential Pac 16), and Joe Schad reports the B10's wish list goes like this: 1. Notre Dame, 2. Rutgers, 3. Maryland, 4. Missouri.

There will now be serious ripple effects stemming from this news. Texas' president and AD informed their coaching staff that they tried to save the Big 12, but will now have to leave because they believe the conference is now dead. Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech , Colorado, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State will now reportedly accept the invitation form the Pac 10 to form the nation's first super conference. It will be interesting to see if these are in fact the 6 teams the Pac 10 wants because Texas' state government has threatened legal actions if Baylor is not brought along with the other 3 Texas schools.

I now expect the Big 10 to raid the Big East, and the SEC to raid the ACC in order to compete with the Pac 16. I'll have more on what I think will happen now tomorrow.

Update (Friday)- Nebraska and the Big 10 have made it official, Nebraska is the 12th member of the Big 10.
